Obituary for Richard E. "Rick" Cardarelli

Richard E. "Rick" Cardarelli
Rick Cardarelli (66) passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 20, 2017.
Rick was born in Akron, OH. He grew up in Cuyahoga Falls and after graduating high school there he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Orion stationed at Norfolk, VA. After completing his service in the Navy, Rick went to broadcasting school and married the love of his life, Susie. He took his first radio gig in Marion, KY. It was rough in Kentucky for an Italian boy and after a short time there he moved back to the Akron area and joined WSLR, where he worked as a radio personality and programming director for 17 years. After the death of AM radio, Rick joined Curb Records for 12 years where he worked as a record promoter helping numerous country musicians gain stardom. In the latter years of his life, Rick had succumbed to the Multiple Sclerosis that he had lived with for 36 years. Rick loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He loved filling their bellies with all sorts of crap they didn’t need to eat and spoiling them in any way he possibly could. He loved all things Italian; pasta, wine, music, and cannolis…forget about it. Oh, and there were the Yankees. Rick loved the Yankees. He didn’t just like the Yankees, he loved loved the Yankees. Except for that overpaid, no talent, chump Alex Rodriguez. Rick’s only regret is having his obituary published before Alex Rodriguez’s.
He was preceded in death by his father, James; mother, Cecilia; grandson, Dominic; and many aunts and uncles who made a holiday get together look like an Olive Garden commercial. He leaves on this Earth his wife, Susan (Todhunter); daughter, Theresa (Thomas) Gelonese; son, Rick (Cheryl); grandchildren, Tommy, Nicholas, Natalie, Andrew, and Nathan; brother, Jimmy; uncle, Dick; and many nieces and nephews and way too many cousins to count.
Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2 to 6p.m. at the Dunn-Quigley Stow Chapel (3333 Kent Rd. at Rt. 91). Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery where VFW Post 3383 will render military honors.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the MS Society. www.nationalmssociety.org
