Mary Carmella (Vassalotti) Verderico, 98, born December 22, 1918 passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017.
Mary was born in Akron, Ohio, and graduated from Akron South High School. She was a homemaker and focused intently on raising her family. Mary was widowed in 1954 with seven children, ranging in age from four months to 14 years. She worked tirelessly and endured in holding the family together and seeing them all succeed to adulthood. As her children grew older, Mary entered the workforce, having several jobs before joining The University of Akron's Department of Physical Facilities, working from 1977 until retiring in 1982.
Mary was preceded in death by parents, Pasquale and Maria Vassalotti of Riccia Campobasso, Italy, husband, Nick, children, Joanne, Jim , daughter-in-law Margaret (Adlon), grandson Patrick , great-grandson Gavin, siblings, Rosy Brancato, Louis Vassalotti, and Josephine Cea.
She is survived by her sons, Joe of Tallmadge, Pat (Roberta) of Eastvale, CA, Nick of Stow, Paul (Joanne) of Tallmadge, Tom (Gloria) of Hudson; daughter, Mary Jane Bonko of Tallmadge and daughter-in-law JoAnna of Green, 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Connie Maione and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Dunn-Quigley Stow Chapel (3333 Kent Road at Rt. 91), with Mass of Christian Burial to be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church (83 Mosser Place, Akron). Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
