Obituary for Janice Marie Sebeny (Chappell)

Janice Sebeny (Chappell), of Cuyahoga Falls, 74 passed away on the 7th day of March, 2017 at her home in the presence of her husband and family.

She was born on August 9th, 1942 in Akron, Ohio, and graduated from Central High School class of 1960.

She was proceeded in death by her son John Sebeny, her parents James and Mary Chappell and brother James Chappell.

She leaves her husband of 54 years, Carl Sebeny, and children: Christine Mecone (Franklin), Karen Sebeny, Deanna Vargo (David) and Stephen Sebeny, and grandchildren Franklin Mecone III, Siarra Powers (Jesse), Jamie Hiner, Kyle Rogers, and Paige Vargo.

With love, care and an abundance of laughter, she devoted years to being at home with her five children. After raising her children, she shared her gift of loving communication via volunteer work at the Crisis hotline and the St Vincent de Paul Society.

Now a member of IHM Parish, she was previously a parishioner at St Matthew’s Parish for many years where she was active in parish activities including the annual carnivals and prayer groups.

Jan retired from “What on Earth” in 2005 after also working at St Peter’s Episcopal Church in Akron as a secretary, food services with Akron Public Schools, and advertising sales with the Weekly Pride newspaper.

Amongst all those she encountered, most often laughter was shared, and not one was left a stranger.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Summa Health Home Care Hospice, the wonderful caregivers who supported Janice and her family until her passing.
