Betty J. McVan, 92, passed away on April 18, 2017. Born in Akron, the daughter of the late Emil and Elsie Lutz, she had attended St.Mary’s Grade School and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. She was retired from Visiting Nurse Service. For 72 years, Betty was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish where she was Past President of the Ladies’ Guild and was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vern; her son, Jimmy; brothers, Ed, Bill, Al, and Paul; and sisters, Arlene and Madelyn.
Her survivors include daughters, Susan (Joe) Cabe, Nancy (Brian) Caldwell, and Laura (David) Shawlson; sons, Larry, and Chuck (Beth); sister, Lucille Styles; grandchildren, Trisha, Mike, Jenny, Brittany, Andy, Ellen, Katie, Charlie, Luke, Danny, Elizabeth, and Lauren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home (811 Grant St.). Nephew, Fr. Ken Styles will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (1044 Brown St.). Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. John's Facilities Fund or St. John's Memorial Fund.
