Obituary for Eileen Marie Shrader (Gaffney)

EILEEN M. SHRADER, age 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 2, 2017.

Eileen was born on October 7, 1926 in Akron to the late Stephen J. Gaffney and Nora Walsh-Gaffney. She lived her entire life in Akron. She graduated from St. Martha’s Grade School and North High School.

Her Catholic faith was very important to her. She was active at St. Matthew’s Parish, serving as President of Catholic Daughters and as a member of the Altar Society, singing in the choir, volunteering for Bingo, and counting Sunday offerings.

Eileen, a proud Irish girl, loved being around her family, and her family adored being around her. With her amazing memory, Eileen remembered everyone’s birthdays and special occasions, which was not an easy feat! She enjoyed hearing stories from all of the special people in her life and she had a laugh that could light up the room. Eileen will be missed greatly at all future reunions, parties, holidays, and golf outings.

She was a 26-year employee of General Tire in the accounting department, where she rose to
Assistant Manager, and she remained a member of the Generettes. She was an avid golfer well
into her 80’s. She also loved bowling, reading, playing cards, and eating chocolate. She was the proud donor of 23 gallons of blood with Red Cross during her lifetime. She also volunteered at the office of The Village at St. Edwards.

In addition to her parents, Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Paul F. Shrader; her son, Gary P. Shrader; brothers, James A. Gaffney, Joseph P. Gaffney, and Thomas S. Gaffney; and sister-in-law, Mary K. Floto-Gaffney.

She is survived by her loving daughter-in-law, Mary “Kay” Shrader; granddaughters, Jill (Jake) Sadon and Karen (Kevin) Jakubczak; great-grandson, Noah Sadon; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Ringlein-Gaffney and Mary Moneypenny-Gaffney; and many many close nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to Brookdale-Montrose, Hospice of VNS, and Dynasty, for their care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Eileen’s memory to St. Matthew’s Parish, Akron.

Calling hours will be on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home (811 Grant St.). Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthews Catholic Church. PROCESSION WILL FORM AT THE CHURCH. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery.
