Obituary for Robert A. "Goldie" Simmons

Robert "Goldie" Simmons, 80, of Stow passed away on January 3. Born in Beverly, W.Va. to the late Ralph and Rebecca Simmons, he has been a Stow resident for most of his life. He had retired as a crane operator for Ford Motor Co. after 46 years of service. Family was very important to him and he spent much time babysitting his many grand and great-grandchildren.
Grandpa meant so much to so many people. Everyone has their “person” in life. The one person you call with the good, bad and everything in between and grandpa was that person for so many people in our family. He would sit, listen and give encouragement, if needed.. He was our best friend, our shoulder to lean on and the foundation of this family. He is leaving behind so many broken hearts, while finally making his heart whole again being reunited with grandma.
In 2003 he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Elsie. His son, Michael; sisters, Ruth Gilmore and Helen Carr also preceded him in death.
His survivors include daughter, Ronda Simmons; sons, Robert, Jr. (Becky), Donald (Cheryl), and Kevin (Cheri); sister, Millie Bennett; brothers, Charles, Dick and Bill; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Dunn-Quigley Stow Chapel (3333 Kent Rd. at Rt. 91) where funeral services will take place on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
