Becky was in my math class for all three years of junior high school at Roberts. She was a teacher's delight wherever she went, even at that age. She was extremely mature and a straight A student.
But more than that, Becky seemed to have an understanding of life that exceeded what you would expect from an adult, let alone from a student that age. She loved and appreciated her parents and her family and seemed to realize how fortunate she was to have the life she did.
I believe Becky was diagnosed with lupus when she was in the eighth grade. She was vey sick at that time. I remember visiting her at Children's Hospital. In the years that followed, Becky and I discussed those hospital visits, and she always reminded me how much those visits meant to her.
Many years passed after Becky's school years, and although we kept in touch with Christmas cards, I hadn't seen Becky face to face. Then, as fate would have it, I attended a board meeting for a non-profit organization for which Hylant made their meeting room available. All I can say is that folks in the Hylant office that day wondered what was going on as we celebrated our most unexpected "reunion". Becky had become everything that I imagined she would when I first met he as a seventh grader and more.
Becky was a special person. I was fortunate she was a part of my life.
