Obituary for Donald J. "Don" Gray

Donald J. "Don" Gray
Don Gray knew how to fix it, be it a lawn mower, automobile, or even a bulldozer.

Donald James Gray passed away peacefully May 27, 2017, in Stow, Ohio, where he lived his entire life.

He was born May 29, 1936, in Akron, Ohio, graduated from Stow High School in 1955, and had been active in class reunions with his wife ever since.

Fixing up his first car so he could hit the road the day he got his license at 16, Don had a love of vehicles, especially Ford trucks and tractors. He was a long-time heavy machinery mechanic, and kept the machines running at his father's business, Gray's Nursery in Stow, as well as cars for his sons to get to work.

He was a friend to the neighborhood birds and squirrels, and cared for Cindy, a raccoon born in the chimney, and Lucky, a small gray mutt he brought home one day.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orsa and Roselia (Blazer) Gray; brothers, Gerald Gray and Regis Gray; sister, Dolores (Gray) Schultz, and his wife of 60 years, Isadora (Somosko) Gray.

He is survived by his sons, Richard M. (Deborah) Gray, of Wolcott, CT, David A. Gray, of Brooksville, FL, and Robert K. (Cathy Manus-Gray) Gray, of Cuyahoga Falls; and a grandson, Nathaniel P. Gray, of Wolcott, CT.

Visiting hours will be Friday, June 2, 2017, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Dunn-Quigley Stow Chapel (3333 Kent Rd. at Rt.91). Fr. Mike Ausperk will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Stow. Burial is at Silver Springs Cemetery in Stow following Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church.
