Curtis enjoyed working on cars and had the talent for it. He fixed up my first car which was an old Plymouth Fury. In his words, "this baby runs like a jewel." Of course he wouldn't take a dime for it. I was a very inexperienced driver as I took the wheel that day. Getting on the freeway, I didn't realize that there could be other cars waiting to get on. I was gunning the car at 50 mph to get onto the freeway. In the nick of time Curtis saw my error, called out to me, and I was able to swerve onto the freeway, narrowly missing the cars in front. Curtis literally saved my life that day! I'll always remember and be grateful for that.
